Winter Service Project - Ronald McDonald House

Sometimes kids get sick, and they may live far from hospitals and clinics. When their families need a place to stay that is far from home, or in some cases just need an area to decompress, they can stay at the Ronald McDonald House or have time in a Ronald McDonald Family Room located within local hospitals.

"At the Ronald McDonald House, families can stay together, rest and recharge to remain strong for their child.”

Annually, many different families stay in the Ronald McDonald homes and enjoy home cooked meals and support from staff and volunteers. The Ronald McDonald House charity relies on donations for the basic necessities to support families. For this year's service project at Saint Anthony Park, we will be collecting donations (listed in order of need) to support the Ronald McDonald House chapter in the Twin Cities. This will allow families the ability to focus on their child, without the stress or worry of travel or basic needs. The most needed items are:

  • AA Batteries

  • Foaming Hand Soap

  • Heavy Duty 10” Paper Plates

  • 20 oz. Paper Bowls

  • Hot to-go Cups with Lids

  • Toilet Paper

  • Ziploc Bags

  • Tall Kitchen Drawstring Bags

  • Hand Sanitizer

  • Liquid Dishwasher Soap

  • Juice Boxes

  • Shelf-stable Individual Meals

  • Fruit Cups

  • Beef/Turkey Sticks

  • Pop Tarts

  • Individual-sized Bags of Nuts

  • Microwave Popcorn

  • Soft Fruit Snacks

  • Chewy Granola Bars

Your child may want to help select an item to donate. Whether or not you donate items, this could also be an opportunity for discussion about many different topics--illness, how everyone needs support sometimes, ways that we care for each other, and more.

There is a big box to collect items in the front hall of the school. Please bring any items you wish to donate before winter break!

Lost & Found - Reminder

Try to grab your items from the very full Lost & Found before winter break! Since it is filling up so quickly, we may start emptying it at the end of each month, as needed, starting at the end of December.

Every Meal is a wonderful, free weekend food program!

Our school has far fewer students enrolled in Every Meal this year than we did last year. It's hard to imagine that fewer people have a need for this program, so we're trying to spread the word! Please don't hesitate to sign up if your family could use some extra food on weekends. A bag of shelf-stable food will be quietly placed in your child's backpack on the last day of every week. There's even a way to indicate your food preferences! Please contact Mr. Edwards if you have questions about the program: errol.edwards@spps.org

Otherwise, you can learn more and sign up online. Information is available in English, Spanish, Somali, Hmong, Karen, Arabic, Amharic, and Pashto. Use the links below to find out more or to enroll.

School Choice and SAP Tour Volunteers Needed -

Represent our School!

The Advisory Council is in need of volunteers for upcoming events to support SAP! First, is the School Choice Fair on Saturday, December 10. Second, is helping with hosting tours for prospective families during the month of January.

Please visit the link HERE for more information or to sign up for a position. Feel free to contact advisory@sapsamn.org or karen.duke@spps.org with any questions.

This simple but sweet sign hangs in the entrance of our school.

Family Fridays are a great opportunity for the adults in our students' lives to walk students into school, say hi to teachers and chat with other families. Doors open for students at 7:15AM and classes start at 7:30AM, after which adults will gather in the cafeteria for coffee and morning treats until around 8AM.

In addition to normal preparation, this month's Family Friday seems like a nice opportunity to make or bring a few extra treats to share with staff and teachers. Would you like to help or contribute? Please sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/805084DA4AC2DA0FA7-family

Updated: Dec 2, 2022

Greetings, Wolf Pack! We hope you're staying safe and cozy (when possible) and enjoying the snow. It sure seems to have energized the bundled up kids playing on the playground at school!

Thanks to everyone who supported our school on Give to the Max Day! SAPSA supports SO many activities at the school - from supplies for day-to-day operations to special events - and we really do rely on your generosity. If you missed Give to the Max Day, there are plenty of other fundraisers and events coming up throughout the year! Please be generous, if you are able, so we can support all of our kids. See below for an update from our treasurer, Breanna Mueller.

Our snowy school was quiet and peaceful as snow tapered off late Tuesday afternoon

Upcoming Events

- Thursday, December 1 - Dine Out at Portillo's

5:00-8:00 pm, Roseville - Be sure to mention the fundraiser! The school will get a percentage of all sales. More info below.

- Friday, December 9 - Family Friday

7:00-7:30 am in the cafeteria

- Wednesday, December 14 - SAPSA meeting

6:30pm SAP School Library - If our usual Tuesday meetings don't fit your schedule, December is your chance, with a meeting on WEDNESDAY! All are welcome - bring your questions and ideas, or just come to learn more about what's happening at school. The agenda will be included in next week's Wolf Pack Press.

- Friday, December 16 - School Spirit Day, Fancy Day

Wear your fancy clothes to school, just for fun!

TOMORROW! Dine Out for SAP at Portillo's

Thursday, December 1 at Portillo's in Roseville from 5:00-8:00pm

Portillo's offers retro, Chicago-style comfort food, including their famous hot dogs (and yummy vegan Garden dogs)! Mention the SAPSA fundraiser when you order, or use code PORTILLOS59.

Eat in, drive through, curbside, or pick up!

DEXTER'S CORNER______________

Hi, SAP families! I can't go to Portillo's, but someone please bring me back a Garden Dog! They contain so many different vegetables! I'll just be in the science room, munching on these carrots until then...

Love, Dexter Jr.

Lost & Found - New Policy

The Lost & Found has quickly filled with winter gear and other items. We know how hard it is to keep track of your students' things! Please label items whenever possible and try to track down lost things in a timely manner. To prevent the Lost & Found from getting overfilled and unmanageable, we may start emptying it at the end of each month, as needed, starting at the end of December. Therefore, please make every effort to retrieve items from the Lost & Found before winter break.

Seasonal Treasurer's Update

From Treasurer Breanna Mueller

It was phenomenal to see so many families show up for fun, games, food, and scares at the Fall Festival this year! While Fall Festival is a fabulous way to socialize with family and friends, it's also a way for us to financially support initiatives at SAP like artist programs, library books, science nights, and classroom supplies. Due to your support, Fall fundraising brought in $3,722.

Here's the breakdown: Ticket sales: $2,340

Fall Bulb sale: $851

Spirit wear sales at Fall Festival: $531

Total: $3,722. Additionally, Book Fair sales brought in $4,705 in Scholastic Dollar profits to be used for Read-A-Thon prizes, for stocking classroom libraries, and for classroom supplies.
