Read-A-Thon

THANK YOU to families, teachers, parent volunteers, and, most of all, our enthusiastically reading students for making the Read-A-Thon such a success this year! Our students blasted past the 195,000 minute reading goal, reading more than 370,000 minutes! We also exceeded our fundraising goal, raising over $20,000 to provide classroom materials, books, field trips, athletic gear, art supplies, artist residencies, enrichment activities, and more!

Last Thursday there was a school-wide livestream, where we announced the lucky Read-A-Thon prize winners and class pizza party winners. It was so sweet to hear students cheering for each other! All students also received a book selected by their teachers, made possible by rewards from the Scholastic book fair.

Since students surpassed their reading goal, in the afternoon they got to help tape Dr. Duke to the wall! Everyone got to stick on a piece of brightly colored tape, and then we pulled the stool she was standing on... and she stuck in place! What a fun way to celebrate our students' success. Thanks, Dr. Duke!

Our students read a phenomenal 370,876 minutes during the Read-A-Thon this year!

That's more than 257 days of constant reading!

Needs more tape!

Looking good! What happens when we pull the stool?

Dr. Duke is stuck to the wall!!!

Even stuck in one place, Dr. Duke shows that she can still travel 'around the world' in a book!

If you still have Read-A-Thon materials or donations hanging around, you can drop them in the office or online at https://www.givemn.org/story/Read2023

SAP LEGO League Teams

Two teams of SAP 4th and 5th graders competed at the LEGO League competition at Capitol Hill last Saturday, where they demonstrated their robots and presented their innovation projects. Teams 'Pickle Bricks' and 'LEGO Legion' made us proud! LEGO Legion even took home a programming award! Thank you to Ms Kopp-Reddy and Ms Woods-Weisman for leading LEGO League at SAP.

SAP Luminary Festival Update

Thank you to all the donors and volunteers who have already pitched in to help with preparations for the Luminary Festival. We are overwhelmed by your generosity. More opportunities to help will be announced next week.

Here is some news that astonished us: we are just 13 items away from completely crowd-sourcing the materials for the event. Do you think we can do it? You can help get us there by purchasing 1-2 items here: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/1HG22OPXUJ19P/ref=nav_wishlist_lists_1

The first Art Night at The Makery this Monday was a smashing success! Volunteers braved the sub-zero weather and prepped hundreds of jars to hang in the school forest. They also helped create giant blue flames out of fabric for one of the installations. Wednesday evening (tonight!) more volunteers will gather to create waterproof paper lanterns!

As a reminder, the festival is Saturday February 25th and we can’t wait to see you there. Read more about the festival or make a donation here: https://www.givemn.org/event/Sapluminary
