Phys Ed Update

Students have been working hard this fall in the gym. We are finishing up Ball Skills for Kindergarten through second grade students. We have learned about underhand throwing, overhand throwing, catching, kicking, dribbling and rolling. Our older students are just finishing our soccer unit.  We learned about dribbling, passing, trapping, heading the ball safely, shooting on goal, and goal keeping skills like blocking shots and restarting the game again after a blocked shot by rolling, throwing or punting. We played a couple lead up soccer games using multiple balls to keep all the students and goal keepers active during the games. Next up, after conferences, the K-2 students will be starting a manipulatives unit. They will learn skills with bean bags, hula hoops, juggling scarves, paddles and scoops. Our 3rd-5th grade students will be playing Olympic team handball.

Also, you may notice your student(s) talking about Mr. Her! St. Anthony Park is lucky to have a physical education student teacher during the months of November and December. He is a student at the University of Concordia in St. Paul. He will be teaching with me for a couple weeks and then he will take over full time teaching from November 18th - December 13th.  I'm happy to see the new and exciting ideas he brings to our school.  If you see him around the hallways, or down by the gym stop by and say hello and welcome him to SAP.

—Ms. Paulsen

Candy Donations

If the trick-or-treaters don't manage to clean you out this Halloween, or your kids collect an overabundance of candy and want to share, SAP Elementary will gladly accept and freeze candy donations to use for prizes at our Spring Carnival next year!  Drop off wrapped candy in Ziploc bags at the front office.

School Choice Fair

Volunteers are needed at the St. Paul Public School Choice Fair Saturday December 14th, from 9:30 am - 2 pm to help promote St Anthony Park School. The School Choice Fair is being held at the Saint Paul RiverCentre, 150 4th St W, St Paul, MN 55102.

Bobbie Evangelist and school staff will be answering questions from prospective students and families. Hearing firsthand from current families is meaningful to prospective families considering our school. If available to share your reasons for choosing St Anthony Park Elementary School, please sign up for a shift from 9:30 am - 11:30 am or 11:30 am - 1:30 pm.

Thank you in advance for helping to grow our awesome school community!
